Our beginnings / Uganda
Bavubuka took shape through the vision of Silas Balabyekkubo, known artistically as Babaluku, within a wider movement of young Ugandan artists telling their own stories.
Hip-Hop, Indigenous languages and creative expression offered a way to explore identity and strengthen a sense of belonging. Music became a classroom, and culture became a starting point for confidence, leadership and community.
The idea was simple: young people already carry potential. Space, resources, education and meaningful opportunities can help them express it.
The belief behind the work
A story that keeps growing
What began through cultural expression grew into many ways to learn, create and contribute.
Media, fashion, photography, film, entrepreneurship, sport and mentorship became part of the work—connected by the same commitment to young people finding their voices and building stronger communities.
01 / UGANDA
Indigenous Hip-Hop, language and cultural knowledge create pathways for young people to express themselves and develop as community leaders.
02 / CANADA
Arts, recreation, learning, youth employment and family programming respond to the experiences of children, young people and communities growing in Canada.
03 / GLOBAL CONNECTIONS
Artists, educators and community builders exchange ideas between Uganda, Canada, the African diaspora and wider Indigenous communities.

Creativity, shared knowledge and community are threads running through Bavubuka’s work.
The next chapter
Today, that founding belief continues through spaces for learning, music, dance, leadership, sport and shared meals.
Each program offers another way to discover a strength, make a connection or contribute to someone else’s growth. Different communities shape the work, while culture, belonging and opportunity keep it connected.
