Bavubuka Foundation is a youth and community development organization rooted in the belief that authentic expression can transform lives.
Through culture, creativity, education, sport, entrepreneurship and community-building, we create spaces where young people can discover their voices, develop their gifts and become builders within their communities.
Bavubuka Foundation took shape in Uganda in 2005 through the vision of Silas Balabyekkubo, known artistically as Babaluku, within a wider movement of young Ugandan artists using Hip-Hop, Indigenous languages and creative expression to tell their own stories.
At the heart of Bavubuka was a simple conviction: young people already carry potential. What they often need is space, resources, education and meaningful opportunities to express what they carry.
Music became a classroom. Culture became a source of identity. Creative expression became a pathway toward confidence, leadership and community.
Over time, the work expanded into media, fashion, photography, film, entrepreneurship, sport, mentorship, cultural education, youth employment and community gathering.
Bavubuka's story has always centred on young people becoming conscious of their ability to shape the world around them.
We do not see young people simply as recipients of programs. We see them as participants, creators and builders.
Preserving identity, language, memory and creative traditions while giving them new expression.
Developing the confidence and skills to tell their own stories and participate in conversations that shape them.
Creating relationships, spaces and opportunities that strengthen connection and belonging.
Turning skills, ideas and creativity into pathways for learning, employment and entrepreneurship.
Learning to take responsibility, contribute ideas and support the growth of others.
Carrying knowledge forward while creating new possibilities for the generations coming behind them.
Environments where young people can participate, experiment and belong.
Access to tools, relationships and opportunities that make ideas possible.
Knowledge, mentorship and practical learning that help skills grow.
Freedom to create, question, communicate and develop an authentic voice.
Enter a space where you are welcomed and seen.
Encounter new skills, ideas, culture and possibilities.
Practice, experiment and bring ideas into the world.
Take responsibility and contribute to the growth of others.
Create opportunities that strengthen community.
Indigenous Hip-Hop, cultural expression, youth leadership, creative entrepreneurship and community building became pathways for a generation to find and strengthen its voice.
Arts, recreation, learning, youth employment, cultural belonging and family programming respond to the realities of children, young people and communities growing here.
Artists, educators, researchers, cultural workers and community builders exchange knowledge across borders, creating relationships between Uganda, Canada, the African diaspora and wider Indigenous communities.
To create spaces where young people can discover their voices, develop their potential and use creativity, culture, learning and community to build stronger futures.
We envision communities where young people are not waiting to be included in the future, but are actively helping create it — grounded in identity, connected to community and equipped with the confidence and opportunity to lead.
