What Is *Back To The Source?

This retreat was inspired by young men and women who by all means commit and dedicate their talent and gifts to transform lives in their communities through the culture of Hip Hop

Back to the Source is an Indigenous Hip Hop Leadership Retreat designed to explore the transformative power found in reconnecting emerging Hip Hop communities to their indigenous spirit. In solidarity with indigenous people around the world, we have embarked on this journey to reconnect the youth to ancestral wisdom, knowledge, language, and land, collectively immersing ourselves in the energy of our ancestors by the Nile.

In celebration of the spirit of Honourable Marcus Garvey’s message of “repatriation is a must” we have created Back To The Source based on the ideology that “reconnection is a must” for the legacy of our people to be restored.

Back to the Source transforms the lives and practices of all those who participate. They leave the retreat with a deeper understanding of self, service, and the relationship between the two. Most often they develop a clearer vision of their purpose and their responsibility within their communities locally and globally. Minds and hearts are connected through aappreciation of each others stories, struggles and triumphs, giving strength to rise above years of institutionalized conditioning imposed on our continent by its oppressors.

This is the generation Africa has been waiting for, one that will navigate back to their roots as proud sons and daughters of the soil. In service we empower this generation of warriors, young people who will restore dignity for humanity through peace building and applying ancestral wisdom to break all colonial conditionings. We journey together to capture and celebrate our beautiful spirit, the resilient soul that has continued to keep us living, surviving, and flourishing, regardless of all trials and tribulation.
